Spanish module

The Spanish module covers over 1,100 verbs in sixteen tenses, over 1,400 nouns, and the smaller word classes around them.

Each word type has its own tile on Self Study, and each tile opens a hub with the same Setup / Theory / Study / Drills sections as the rest of the app. Level and topic are not set per hub: they are one global filter, set in Self Study → Select word scope, that every hub draws on. There is no frequency filter in Self Study.

  • Verbs — over 1,100 verbs in 23 verb groups, conjugated in sixteen tenses across the indicative, subjunctive and imperative, plus the gerundio. Choose verb groups and tenses, read the theory, look up any verb's full conjugation, then drill meanings, production, recognition and the choice drills. See Verbs.
  • Nouns — over 1,400 nouns: gender, plurals, meanings and translations. See Nouns.
  • Adjectives — about 250 adjectives: agreement, shortening, comparison and adverb derivation.
  • Adverbs — over 230 adverbs, derived (-mente) and lexical.
  • Pronouns — around fifty pronouns: personal, demonstrative, possessive, relative, interrogative and indefinite.
  • Prepositions — over 30 prepositions, taught by usage: por / para, en / a / de, collocations and idioms.
  • Numerals — cardinal numbers and their relatives, with shortening (un, cien) and agreement in the hundreds.
  • Other Vocabulary — the remaining single words: conjunctions, articles, determiners and interjections.
  • Phrases — over 240 curated set phrases, plus the example sentences from the verb and noun catalogues. See Words and phrases.

Some features exist only in the Spanish course:

  • Traps — curated decks of things that actively mislead a learner: false friends, nouns whose ending lies about their gender, nouns whose meaning changes with the article, and adjectives whose meaning changes with ser or estar. On iPhone and iPad it is a card under Tools on Self Study; on the Mac it is in the sidebar. See Traps.
