Pick the Correct Article

The Article drill is a fast, focused test of one thing: el or la? For each noun in the session, you tap whichever article is correct. No typing, no flashcard flip — just a binary choice.

How it works

A Spanish noun appears without an article. You tap el or la.

  • Correct answer — the card advances after a short pause (or immediately if Auto-advance is off).
  • Wrong answer — the correct article is shown, and you can study it for a moment before moving on.

Each noun appears once per session. Your answer history is recorded and feeds the adaptive engine — words you get wrong come back more often in future sessions.

Why a dedicated article drill?

Article + noun is a unit in Spanish; the gender is part of the word, not a fact you derive afterwards. The Article drill is the fastest way to lock in gender for the nouns you already know the meaning of. It is the next step after Meaning Test feels comfortable.

For the small set of nouns whose meaning changes with the article — el capital vs la capital, etc. — use the Alternate Gender Pairs drill instead.

Tips

  • Run this drill alongside Meaning Test, not before. Producing the right article for a noun you don't yet know the meaning of has limited value.
  • If you find yourself guessing more than answering, check the Noun Gender Rules study screen first — most nouns follow predictable patterns.
  • The Article drill pairs well with topic-filtered selections — e.g. drilling article-correctness on Food vocabulary right after Meaning Test consolidates both meaning and gender for the same set.
