Words and phrases

Two tiles on the Self Study screen cover the vocabulary that has no hub of its own:

  • Phrases: set phrases, and the example sentences of the verbs and nouns. This is the largest pool in the Spanish module: thousands of sentences, depending on the tenses you study. See Phrases.
  • Other Vocabulary: the small single words that are not verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions or numerals. In Spanish these are 30 articles, determiners, conjunctions and interjections. See Other Vocabulary.

Both hubs have the usual Setup / Theory / Study / Drills layout. The drill is a flashcard deck for meaning, in either direction.

External dictionary lookups

The pages of Spanish verbs, nouns, phrases and other words have a Dictionaries row near the bottom. Tap it to show chips for four online dictionaries: Linguee, WordReference, Reverso and RAE (the Real Academia Española). Tap a chip to look the word up. On iPhone and iPad the page opens in a Safari sheet inside the app. On the Mac it opens in your browser. Linguee and Reverso translate into Dutch when Dutch is your app language. WordReference always uses English.

Choose which dictionaries appear in Settings → Spanish → Dictionary services. If you switch all four off, the row disappears.
