French module

The French module is a complete course in its own right. It covers over 900 verbs conjugated in sixteen tenses, over 1,350 nouns with their gender and plurals, about 280 adjectives with their agreement, and the smaller word classes around them. You don't need to know another language first. Irregular forms are marked in the conjugation tables down to the letters that depart from the pattern.

Each word type has its own tile on Self Study, and each tile opens a hub with the same four sections: Setup, Theory, Study and Drills. Level and topic are not set per hub: they are one global filter, set in Self Study → Select word scope, and every hub uses it. There is no frequency filter in Self Study.

• Verbs — over 900 verbs in the three French groups, with fourteen verb groups to choose from and sixteen tenses across the indicatif, conditionnel, subjonctif and impératif. Choose verb groups and tenses, read the theory, look up any verb's full conjugation, then drill meaning, production and recognition, the irregular verbs, and three choice drills: Passé composé or imparfait, Indicatif or subjonctif and Être or avoir. • Nouns — over 1,350 nouns with gender, plurals and translations. The drills are Noun meaning, Pick the correct article, Which article? (the article a whole sentence needs), Singular / Plural and Alternate gender pairs.
• Adjectives — about 280 adjectives: agreement in gender and number, the irregular feminines and plurals, and position. The drills are Adjective meaning and an Agreement drill.
• Adverbs — about 170 adverbs: the ones derived with -ment, the irregular forms and the plain lexical adverbs, with an Adverb meaning drill.
• Pronouns — around 45 pronouns: personal, demonstrative, relative, interrogative and more. The drills are Pronoun meaning, an Object pronoun drill and an Agreement drill (celui, le mien).
• Prepositions — about 20 prepositions, with a Preposition meaning drill and a Contrast drill (pour or par, en or dans, à or de).
• Numerals — cardinals, ordinals, fractions, multiples and collectives, including the vigesimal soixante-dix and quatre-vingts. The drills are Numeral meaning and Does it take an -s?
• Other Vocabulary — the remaining single words: conjunctions, articles, determiners, interjections and similar.
• Phrases — over 240 set phrases and common expressions.
