Phrase Meanings¶
The Phrase Meanings test is a flashcard drill. A phrase appears in either Spanish or your native language; you recall the other side, then rate yourself.
How a card works¶
- A phrase appears on the front of the card.
- Tap the card (or the Show button) to reveal the other side.
- Rate yourself with one of the three buttons:
- Correct — you knew it without hesitation.
- Difficult — you got there eventually, or were only partially right.
- Incorrect — you did not know it or were wrong.
Each phrase appears exactly once per session.
Direction picker¶
The picker at the top of the screen lets you choose:
- Spanish → native — recognition. Usually the easier direction.
- Native → Spanish — recall, which is more demanding because you have to produce the Spanish chunk.
- Mixed — a random direction is chosen for each card. Best for ongoing review once both directions feel comfortable.
Audio¶
The speaker icon plays the Spanish phrase using your selected iOS Spanish voice. Particularly useful here — listening to a complete chunk like de vez en cuando spoken aloud helps the rhythm settle into memory in a way that reading alone doesn't.
End of session¶
After the last card, a summary shows your Correct / Difficult / Incorrect counts. From the summary you can repeat the session with the same set, or return to the Phrases home and let the engine pick the next-best N from your pool.
