This screen chooses which of the two kinds count: Set phrases and Example sentences. Tap a kind to switch it on or off; tick both for both. Each row shows its size and a few samples. Tap ⓘ for a short explanation with more examples.

The line at the top shows how many phrases you selected and how many are left after the rest of your scope. The phrases in the pool are also narrowed by:

  • Select tenses: a sentence only counts when every tense it uses is selected. With only the present selected, El abogado defendió a su cliente stays out, because defendió is an indefinido. A verb's tense example is the exception: it needs only the tense it was written for, so Si tuviera tiempo, viajaría counts when the condicional is selected; its other tense, the imperfecto de subjuntivo, only has to be within your level. This is the same tense choice as on the Verbs hub, and the Select tenses row in this hub opens it: a change here changes the verb drills too.
  • Your level and Select word scope: a sentence counts when its word and every tense it uses are within your level, and it takes its word's topic. Its level is the latest of these: with abogado at A1 and the indefinido at A2, the sentence is at A2. A sentence with no verb (Un café solo, por favor) follows its word alone.

The choice of kinds changes the pool the most. Set phrases alone is a small, focused pool. With Example sentences on, thousands of sentences are included. Topics are useful here too: going on a trip? Limit Select word scope to Travel and Social.
